Nordic Walking can be defined as a form of outdoor physical activity involving walking with the use of poles that have been specially adapted from cross country skiing. The main goal of using the poles is to involve muscles, which are not used during normal walking. This enables the performance of high intensity exercising with a relatively low level of perceived exertion.
A less common name for crosscountry skiing is Nordic skiing; therefore, the name Nordic Walkingwas analogically accepted in Europe. It was also known in some places asski walking, pole walking or fitness walking.
